Jak Michael Ryan was born in Melbourne, Australia. His parents were Australasian champions and his aunts and uncles world semi-finalists — all of whom owned a dance studio together — so there was no escaping a pair of Cuban heels and a life in the ballroom and Latin world.
Jak's career began being coached by his family. His dedication earned him many titles in Australia while he honed his teaching in the family studio and schools around Australia. At 18 he came to the United States to learn from some of his favorite dancers and top coaches. He has dedicated his life to the purity and authenticity of Latin American dance. His mission, with his own dancing or his students, has always been to create dancing you can feel instead of just see.
